Windows Remote Desktop Services External Connector

Network access from your business partners or customers to your Windows Server can be aquired through Windows CALs or external connector for each of your external users. A Windows Server External Connector (EC) licenses for each server will grant your external users access to this server.

An external user is a person who is not an employee, or similar personnel of the company or its affiliates, and is not someone to whom you provide hosted services using the server software. An EC license can be acquired for servers running Windows Server Standard, Enterprise, and Datacenter.

Either individual CALs or External Connector licenses can be purchased for external users to access the server software.

"External Users" means users who are neither employees of You or Your Affiliates nor contractors or agents on-site of You or Your Affiliates. External Users include, for example, business partners and customers. Access by non-external users (e.g. employees) can only be licensed via CALs.

You are required to assign each External Connector license you purchase to a server licensed to run one or more instances of the server software. A hardware partition or blade is considered a separate server.

Each External Connector assigned to a server allows any number of external users to access instances of the server software on that server. You do not need a CAL for these users.
